Long Island Lutheran 3, Portledge 0: Christian Peterson scored 15:00 into the second half to give No. 2 Long Island Lutheran (13-5-1) a 1-0 lead, and that was all it would need in a 3-0 win over No. 1 Portledge in the IPPSAL finals. Peterson scored twice (also knocking in the game's third goal) and Carl Webber added the other shot. Mike Mitchell had two assists and Keegan Peterson made eight saves for just his second shutout of the year. "Overall, this is probably one of the most talented teams I've coached," seven-year Lutheran coach Gary Proce said. "We beat Portledge earlier this season and we lost to them last week, so this was like a rubber match for us and our guys stepped up. This was a very sweet win for us." This is Lutheran's fourth win in the IPPSAL finals in the past seven years, but their first since 2006. Portledge is down, but now out, as the team will advance to the state tournament. IPPSAL sends its league champion to that tournament.

Freshman Jessica Seigal tied the score with 6:20 left in the first half, taking the ball down the left side and shooting 10 yards from the end line. Samara Yegewel made 20 saves for Hewlett. "Basically we just went into a defensive shell in the second half," coach Gil Kreiss said. "We had the wind in the first half and in the second half we just hung tough. If we spent five minutes of possession time in their end of the field in the second half it was a lot."
