The second overall pick in the 1957 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons, Charlie Tyra made his debut with the Knicks in the 1957-58 season.

Tyra played in New York for four seasons. He averaged a career-high 12.8 points on a career-best 43.1 percent shooting during the 1959-60 season.

The Knicks made the playoffs once with Tyra on the roster, and in Tyra's final two seasons on the team, the team went a combined 48-106.

During the 1961 offseason, Tyra was traded with Bob McNeill to the Chicago Packers for Dave Budd.
