The Knicks acquired the rights to Toney Douglas for cash and a 2011 second-round pick shortly after the point guard was taken 29th overall in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Lakers.

A hard-nosed defender from Florida State who could hit the three, Douglas was one of the team's most reliable 3-point shooters as a rookie. He shot 38.9 percent from beyond the arc and averaged 8.6 points in 19.4 minutes per game.

The following season, Douglas' role in the offense increased, but his efficiency decreased. His scoring, rebounding and assist numbers all improved, but his field-goal percentage and 3-point percentage dropped markedly. In the offseason, Douglas underwent surgery on his right shoulder after it was revealed that he was battled a shoulder injury for much of the season.

Douglas beat out veteran Mike Bibby and rookie Iman Shumpert for the starting point guard job out of the lockout-shortened 2011 preseason. For the second straight year, though, his field-goal and 3-point percentages plummeted, and head coach Mike D'Antoni eventually removed him from the rotation.
