Community Profile

Community description: Celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, the village is trying to retain its historic character while freshening the downtown. Westbury also includes the unincorporated neighborhoods of Salisbury and New Cassel. Many of the area's original cape and ranch homes have been expanded, says Leanora Ackley, an agent with Prudential Douglas Elliman.

Condos: The Horizon, a new luxury 55-and-over building, and Maple Tower recently opened. Others are older.

Co-ops: Studios to two-bedroom units at Post House are currently listed on Multiple Listing Service of Long Island's Web site for $59,000 to $159,990.

New construction: Four new homes listed from $879,000 to $925,000 are under construction in Salisbury.

Beautification projects: A new brick-paved village square has benches, lamp posts, a waterfall and an info kiosk.

Shopping: Restaurants, small grocers and shops line Post Avenue in the village. There are several shopping centers nearby on Old Country Road.
