In the 17th century, pioneers ignored what is now Glen Head because its hilly terrain wasn't suitable for farming. Today, resident Jim Collins calls it a "small, tony community" where people know each other.
In August 2005, the community opened its first library, the Gold Coast Public Library.
A subdivision of six four-bedroom Colonials priced at more than $1 million each is going up on Scudders Lane. Half are complete, with two sold, said Marc Underberg, managing member of M & M Custom Builders in Westbury.
The Knolls, a gated community of co-ops, has units listed between $539,000 and $839,000. Town houses bordering the private Glen Head Country Club are priced between $600,000 and $700,000, said Janet Panzeca of Coldwell Banker Residential in Locust Valley.
